Grooming is not just about maintaining your dog’s level of cleanliness, and it is not just about keeping your dog looking good. Grooming is about maintaining both your dog’s physical health as well as his appearance.
To do this you must begin training your dog to endure grooming while he is still a puppy. If you wait too long to begin the grooming sessions, your puppy may not be agreeable to it later on, especially when it comes to ear cleaning and nail clipping.
Another benefit of grooming is that it allows you to check your dog for any abnormalities. This includes skin problems such as ticks, fleas and dry patches, or issues with their nails, teeth, ears, and eyes such as infection or inflammation. When found at an early stage, these problems can be treated right away, before they have a chance to become more serious.
Following the creation of the Farm Animal Welfare act in 1979, five guidelines were created in order to ensure the wellbeing of pet. The guidelines state that the pets need to be:
Over the years, the number and types of parasite treatments for small animals have grown tremendously. There are two main approaches to parasite treatment -preventative treatments and curative treatments. Preventative treatments are given on a regular interval in an effort to keep animals from getting a large burden of parasites. Curative treatments are given only in response to the positive identification of parasites. As with most things, prevention is easier and better than treating a problem, once it is present.
Many of the newer anti-parasite medications aim at preventing a wide variety of parasites while many of the curative treatments only kill one or two types of parasites. The newest preventative, prescription products include Advantage, Frontline, Revolution, Heartgard, Interceptor, Program, Sentinel, and Proheart, though there are many others available.
